We Have Pings!

Migratory birds wearing transmitters have been picked up by our Motus receivers. These birds have quite a story to tell about their journey: Where did it begin, who tagged them, how far did they fly, how fast, how many other stops along their way, and most importantly why they were tagged as part of a study project.

Kay Hawklee will present an overview of the international research network that tracks the movement and behavior of birds, bats, and insects. And about how our stations were made possible by the efforts of special volunteers in the early 2000s. And about how the current-day project is inspired by National Audubon’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan called Flight Plan.

Students have gathered information about these birds using the Motus.org website. We will share their unique stories. Their journeys are educational and a great opportunity for students and researchers to gain insights about migration - which is the purpose of Motus stations.

President Nancy Steele will also outline plans for 2025–26 and make a major announcement about upcoming changes in the chapter.
